Rosa Sauer, insieme ad altre sei donne, viene costretta per anni a sedere a tavola per assaggiare il cibo destinato ad Adolf Hitler con lo scopo di verificare che non sia avvelenato. Tra le sette donne, che ogni giorno potrebbero perdere la vita, si intrecciano rapporti che implicano sia la solidarietà che il possibile tradimento. Il film si ispira al romanzo omonimo di Rosella Postorino vincitore del Premio Campiello nel 2018. La scrittrice era rimasta colpita dalla vicenda reale di Margot Wolk, una segretaria tedesca costretta ad assaggiare il cibo destinato ad Hitler.
