Nel film, ambientato a distanza di quattro anni dai fatti precedentemente narrati, vediamo Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) profondamente cambiato, che trascorre una vita serena e rilassata lontano da pericoli e inseguimenti, insieme a Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) e suo figlio Brian. Ma le cose sono destinate a cambiare quando fa ritorno sulla scena suo fratello minore Jakob (John Cena), alleato con Cipher (Charlize Theron). L'hacker era stata arrestata da Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) e sta per essere trasferita tramite aereo in prigione, ma viene liberata dal dirottamento messo in atto dallo stesso Jakob e da Otto (Thue Ersted Rasmussen), decisi a impossessarsi del Progetto Aries, un programma di armi che, una volta riunificato, consente di controllare tutti i computer del mondo e i sistemi più avanzati.
