Una storia d'amore ambientata sulle sponde del Mississipi, a New Orleans. Un principe, Naveen, arriva a New Orleans in cerca di jazz, ma capita nelle mani del cattivo Dr. Facilier, uno stregone voodoo che lo tramuta in una ranocchia. L'unico modo per tornare umano è quello di essere baciato da una principessa. La principessa di New Orleans è Tiana, la quale più è abbastanza riluttante a baciare anfibi. Quando alla fine si decide, anche lei viene tramutata in rana. In queste sembianze sono costretti a vivere nella palude, dove più incontreranno qualche simpatico personaggio, come l'alligatore Louis che suona la tromba (ha imparato seguendo le imbarcazioni che attraversano il fiume), e la lucciola Ray. La situazione sembra senza speranza, ma i nodi verranno al pettine durante le celebrazioni del carnevale...
