Dopo oltre vent'anni dall'uscita del film su Basquiat, il regista Julian Schnabel torna a raccontare la grande arte, questa volta portando sul grande schermo con Van Gogh - Sulla soglia dell'eternità gli ultimi e tormentati anni di Vincent Van Gogh. Un ritratto dell'irrequieto pittore olandese - qui interpretato da un sorprendete Willem Dafoe - dal burrascoso rapporto con Gauguin (Oscar Isaac) nel 1988 fino al colpo di pistola che gli ha tolto la vita a soli 37 anni. Un frangente di vita frenetico quello preso in considerazione, che ha portato a momenti molto produttivi e alla conseguente creazione di capolavori che hanno fatto la storia dell’arte e che tutt'oggi continuano a incantare il mondo intero.
