Ready Player One, il film diretto da Steven Spielberg, è basato sul romanzo omonimo di Ernest Cline. Si tratta di una rappresentazione distopica immersa nella suggestione della realtà virtuale, ma la sua particolarità è il rimasticare l'immaginario collettivo videoludico degli anni Ottanta, dalle avventure testuali stile Zork della Infocom passando per Pac-Man e altri titoli meno noti (se non ai veri appassionati). D'altra parte Cline, oltre a essere un nerd militante a 360° (possessore di una DeLorean), è sempre stato un appassionato di videogiochi, in grado di miscelare la propria mania con le sue doti di scrittura creativa, allenate da oltre vent'anni, anche in performance di poesia.
