Il titolo, Saw: Legacy, rivela un piccolo indizio sulla trama dell'ottavo capitolo della saga dell'Enigmista. La sanguinaria eredità di John Kramer (Tobin Bell), malato terminale e aspirante suicida, preda infine di una lucida follia omicida, viene raccolta da un assassino sconosciuto che miete vittime in città. Uno scenario raccapricciante inaugura il nuovo "gioco" mortale: i corpi dilaniati sparsi per le strade recano sulle ferite inferte la firma del famigerato Jigsaw. Ma il killer che per anni si è divertito a testare l'istinto di sopravvivenza di uomini e donne reputati indegni di vivere, è morto ormai da tempo. L'unica spiegazione possibile è che abbia trasmesso a un sadico apprendista l'angosciante gusto dell'inganno, della sfida e del tranello. Lasciando in consegna anche il pallido pupazzo per ventriloqui con papillon rosso sangue.
