'Criminal' non esce quasi mai dalla sala interrogatori di un commissariato di polizia: abbiamo dei sospetti che sono stati arrestati, degli investigatori che li interrogano e assistiamo a un gioco tipo "gatto col topo", una sorta di battaglia psicologica per dare una svolta alle indagini. Siccome stiamo parlando di una serie antologica, ogni episodio fa storia a se stante, con differente cast e trama: nel complesso assisteremo a dodici indagini diverse, ambientate in quattro nazioni (Francia, Germania, Spagna e Regno Unito).
I creatori di questa serie TV sono lo sceneggiatore George Kay e il regista/produttore Jim Field Smith: provengono entrambi dal mondo della televisione, il primo ha scritto cose come 'Killing Eve' e 'Stag', mentre il secondo ha in curriculum 'Wrecked' e 'The Wrong Mans'.
Trattandosi di una serie antologica, 'Criminal' ha un cast piuttosto grosso e nel quale non è possibile indicare i protagonisti (citiamo giusto David Tennant, famoso grazie a 'Doctor Who' e 'Jessica Jones'). Possiamo però segnalare che ogni indagine ambientata nella stessa nazione porta in scena i medesimi detective, mentre cambiano ogni volta i volti dei sospettati.
