Young Ones - L'ultima generazione, film diretto da Jake Paltrow, è ambientato in un futuro prossimo in un mondo ormai quasi del tutto prosciugato dalle riserve d'acqua e devastato dalla siccità. Ogni goccia d'acqua è un bene prezioso, così raro e pregiato da muovere le politiche interne ed esterne e qualsiasi tipo di relazione, anche quelle sentimentali. I pochi rimasti in vita su questo pianeta arido sono in continua lotta tra loro per la sopravvivenza. Tra questi vi è un piccolo nucleo familiare, formato da Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) e dai suoi due figli, Jerome (Kodi Smit-McPhee) e Mary (Elle Fanning).
I tre vivono nella loro fattoria, continuamente attaccata da alcuni banditi. L'uomo sta provando a rifornire il suolo per riportarlo alla salute di un tempo e farlo rinascere, ma Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult), il fidanzato di Mary, è deciso a portare via il terreno a Ernest e appropriarsene. Il giovane è disposto a tutto, pur di riuscire nella sua impresa...
