The Son of No One, film diretto da Dito Montiel, segue le vicende di un giovane poliziotto alle prese con un oscuro segreto del suo passato.
New York, anno 2002. La recluta Jonathan White (Channing Tatum) viene assegnata al commissariato del Queens, il quartiere dove ha vissuto la propria infanzia. Per mantenere la sua famiglia - composta dalla moglie Kerry (Katie Holmes) e dalla piccola figlia malata - l’agente lavora duramente sotto il comando del capitano Marion Mathers (Ray Liotta).
Tuttavia l’equilibrio nella vita del poliziotto viene minacciato, quando un anonimo inizia a fornire informazioni su due omicidi irrisolti avvenuti nel 1986 proprio nel Queens. Il responsabile dell’accaduto è Jonathan, all'epoca adolescente, che si era dovuto difendere dall'aggressione di due spacciatori. Con l’aiuto degli amici Vinnie e Vicky aveva poi fatto sparire i corpi. Il detective che si occupava del caso, Charles Stanford (Al Pacino) - amico e collega del padre di Jonathan - sebbene sapesse la verità, preferì insabbiare tutto, lasciando il ragazzo impunito.
Preoccupato e angosciato, il poliziotto contatta Lauren Bridges (Juliette Binoche), la giornalista che si sta occupando di scrivere un articolo sulla faccenda, cercando di convincerla - senza successo - a lasciar perdere la storia. Ma quando il giorno dopo scopre che Lauren è stata uccisa, capisce di trovarsi in una situazione più grande di lui...
