The Company, film diretto da Robert Altman, narra le storie che si intrecciano all’interno della prestigiosa compagnia di danza classica Joffrey Ballet, della città di Chicago. Una di queste vede come protagonista Ry (Neve Campbell), una ballerina piena di entusiasmo e talento. La sua occasione per brillare all’interno della scuola le si presenta dopo l’infortunio della collega Maia, che si trova costretta a rinunciare al ruolo di prima ballerina nel nuovo spettacolo messo in scena dal direttore artistico Alberto Antonelli (Malcolm McDowell).
La carriera di Ry sembra quindi pronta a prendere il volo e la ragazza non potrebbe essere più felice. Ma le cose per lei prendono una piega inaspettata quando scopre che Frankie - suo fidanzato e compagno di ballo - la tradisce con la ballerina Emily. Da quel momento Ry si trova di fronte a scelte e sfide sempre più difficili, finché non incontra per caso Josh (James Franco), un affascinante ristoratore...
