Enzo e Jacques si conoscono sin da piccoli, quando insieme si immergevano nelle acque del Mediterraneo. Dopo la morte del padre di Jacques, anche lui esperto subacqueo, i due ragazzi smettono di frequentarsi. Jacques lavora in Perù per un gruppo di scienziati, dove si immerge nelle acque ghiacciate per alcuni minuti, in modo che i ricercatori possono raccogliere dati sulla sua condizione fisica, che sembra essere più simile a quella dei delfini che a quella degli esseri umani. Enzo invece è diventato un famoso campione di immersione in apnea. Un giorno i due si rincontrano per partecipare ad una gara di immersioni a Taormina. La sfida tra i due potrebbe diventare molto pericolosa per entrambi.
