A Tupelo, nel Mississipi, un ragazzo canta mestamente accanto alla tomba di Jesse Garon Presley: siamo nel 1945 ed il giovane è Elvis, gemello del defunto. La morte di suo fratello segna il giovane Elvis e lo rende attaccatissimo alla madre, ma non gli impedisce di coltivare la sua passione per il canto. A Memphis, nel 1953, nel corso di una festa presso la scuola dove studia, si esibisce davanti al pubblico per amore della fidanzata Polly. Subito dopo il giovane Elvis prende contatto con Sam Philips, proprietario dell'etichetta discografica 'Sound Record' e gli chiede di incidere un disco da regalare a sua madre. Da lì inizia la travolgente carriera del re del rock che si concluderà con la morte, nell'agosto del 1977.
