Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russel), il famoso sceriffo federale di Dodge City, ha deciso di mettersi in affari con i suoi due fratelli, Virgil e Morgan, nella cittadina di Tombstone. Al loro arrivo trovano però l'anarchia, una banda di fuorilegge, i Cow-boys, impongono la loro "legge". Nel frattempo, in città, arriva un amico di Wyatt, Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), professionista del poker, nonché una delle pistole più veloci del West.
