Joe, vagabondo abile e imprevedibile, convince due suoi vecchi compari, il mezzo indiano Bill e la fanciulla Lucy, ad aiutarlo a compiere una truffa ai danni del maggiore Cabot. La truffa consiste nel recupero di 300.000 dollari destinati agli indiani che il maggiore Cabot ha invece tenuto per sè. Ci saranno però subito delle complicazioni, anche se il furbo Joe non sembra preoccuparsene più di tanto.
