Ispirato a una storia vera, il film racconta la straordinaria vicenda di Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards (Taron Egerton) il primo saltatore con gli sci a rappresentare la Gran Bretagna - paese notoriamente privo di tradizioni negli sport sciistici - alle Olimpiadi Invernali, quelle di Calgary in Canada nel 1988. Ad allenare questo impossibile eroe è l'ex campione Chuck Berghorn (Hugh Jackman) che aiuterà Eddie a diventare un vero e proprio eroe popolare.
