Durante una crociera il giovane playboy Nickie Ferrante incontra Terry McKay, una bella cantante che si esibisce nei night club. Tra i due nasce l' amore, ma essendo entrambi già impegnati, decidono di separarsi e di rivedersi dopo qualche mese per constatare se il sentimento è così forte da sopravvivere alla lontananza. L' appuntamento è per la notte di Natale sulla cima dell'Empire State Building. La sera dell'appuntamento, mentre Nickie aspetta trepidante sul grattacielo, Terry è vittima di un incidente; lungo la strada viene investita da un'auto e rimane paralizzata alle gambe. Deluso dal mancato incontro, Nickie se ne va. Dopo molto tempo rivede Terry, che ora dirige un coro per bambini in una chiesa e decide di andare a trovarla. Il loro grande amore compirà il miracolo.
