Jack Stark, un veterano della guerra del Golfo, viene ferito gravemente alla testa e di conseguenza soffre di amnesia, viene ingiustamente accusato di omicidio e rinchiuso in un manicomio in cui si sta sperimentando un nuovo trattamento sulla mente. Una camicia di forza e potenti psicofarmaci agiscono su Jack che, rinchiuso in una sorta di loculo, è prigioniero di allucinazioni che lo proiettano in una dimensione spazio-temporale alterata. Durante questi viaggi il suo passato riemerge a tratti, mentre il futuro incalza prepotentemente mostrandogli addirittura la sua morte. Tra dolore e angoscia un dolce sogno lo accompagna nel suo vagare attraverso gli anni: l'amore per la bellissima Jackie, anche lei in cerca di una possibile salvezza.
