La mamma single Katrina decide di partire con la giovane figlia per iniziare una nuova vita, ma rimane in panne con l'auto in mezzo al nulla. Mentre la donna cambia la gomma, Clara si incammina nel deserto e viene morsa da un serpente a sonagli velenoso. Nel tentativo disperato di salvare la figlia, Katrina accetta l'aiuto di una donna misteriosa ma, dopo che questa guarisce miracolosamente Clara, le viene chiesto di ripagare la buona azione uccidendo uno sconosciuto in cambio della vita salvata. Il tempo stringe e prima che la vita della figlia sia messa nuovamente in pericolo al tramonto, Katrina si trova ad affrontare un dilemma morale: chi merita di vivere e chi di morire?
