Nella camera mortuaria di un obitorio, un coroner (John Carpenter) racconta tre storie. Il primo episodio, "The Gas Station", narra le disavventure di una studentessa, alla sua prima notte di lavoro in un distributore di benzina, perseguitata da un fantomatico serial killer. Nel secondo episodio, "Hair", Richard Coberts, ossessionato dall'incipiente calvizie, si sottopone alla rivoluzionaria terapia del dottor Lock che promette di risolvere il problema senza interventi chirurgici ma semplicemente con l'impiego di un prodigioso elisir. Nel terzo episodio, "Eye", il giocatore di baseball Brent Matthews perde un occhio in un tragico incidente stradale. La sua carriera e il matrimonio con Cathy rischiano di andare in rovina, ma i dottori Bregman e Lang gli prospettano la possibilità di recuperare la vista trapiantandogli l'organo sano di un donatore.
