Frank Dooley svolge il suo lavoro di poliziotto in modo molto maldestro tanto che una sera nel tentativo di arrestare due suoi corrotti colleghi sorpresi a rubare, viene a sua volta accusato di furto e cacciato dal corpo di polizia. Contemporaneamente l'avvocato Norman Kane per aver mostrato paura in aula di fronte ad un pregiudicato, viene invitato dal giudice ad abbandonare la professione. I due casualmente si incontrano nella scuola del corpo di Guardie Private dirette da Clarence O'Connell e da sua figlia Maggie.
