Adattamento cinematografico dedicato ad Aquaman, il supereroe dell'universo DC Comics creato nel 1941 da Paul Norris et Mort Weisinger. L'azione segue gli eventi di Justice League.Arthur Curry noto anche come il Protettore degli oceani Aquaman (Jason Momoa), esita a prendere il posto che gli spetta alla guida del regno sottomarino di Atlantide. Se nella sua prima avventura corale il giovane ibrido umano-atlantideo ha dichiarato di avere ancora “un casino di cose da fare”, il film da protagonista lo vede più maturo e meno spavaldo, intenzionato a mettere la forza sovrumana di cui è dotato, l'abilità di governare le maree e la capacità di nuotare a elevatissime velocità, al servizio dei più deboli. La sua lealtà tuttavia, è divisa tra gli abitanti della terra, che continuano a inquinare il pianeta, e il popolo subacqueo che progetta segretamente di invadere la superficie. Il supereroe spaccone e solitario dovrà scegliere con giudizio la strategia da adottare per garantire la pacifica convivenza tra le due parti. Accanto a lui ci saranno preziosi consiglieri come Mera (Amber Heard) e pericolosi nemici come il fratellastro Orm (Patrick Wilson) che mira al trono.
