Howard Wakefield è un uomo di successo cui la vita non ha fatto mancare nulla: ha un ottimo lavoro come avvocato, una bella casa, una moglie e due figlie. Un giorno, stanco della routine e dei litigi per gelosia con la moglie, sale per caso sulla soffitta del garage e decide di nascondervisi per mesi, dandosi per scomparso. Quando spiando di nascosto la famiglia dalla finestra scopre un crescente interesse della moglie nei confronti di un vecchio fidanzato, l’uomo inizierà a riflettere su come il successo nel lavoro lo avesse portato a smarrire il suo percorso di padre e marito e a meditare sul suo ritorno per riprendersi ciò che ama e la sua vita.
