Dopo una tragedia familiare, il ragazzo prodigio del kung fu, Li Fong (Ben Wang), è costretto a lasciare la sua casa di Pechino e a trasferirsi a New York con la madre. Li Fong cerca di liberarsi del suo passato e integrarsi con i suoi nuovi compagni di classe. Malgrado non voglia combattere, i guai sembrano raggiungerlo ovunque: infatti, per aiutare un suo nuovo amico in difficoltà, è costretto a partecipare a una gara di karate. Tuttavia, le sue abilità non bastano. A questo punto, l'insegnante di kung fu di Li Fong, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), chiede aiuto al primo “Karate Kid”, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).
