Nel 2078, remoti pianeti come Sirius 6 B, ospitano residuati bellici e piccoli presidi militari. Anche la Terra è quasi deserta, dopo guerre spaventose e utilizzo di minerali, trovati nelle galassie, venefici per le loro conseguenze industriali. Su Sirius 6 B si trova il colonnello Joseph Hendricksson, al suo comando è un manipolo di soldati dell'Alleanza. "Un militare di carriera", ormai nauseato da guerre senza fine, per cui decide di attivare i contatti necessari per una pace separata con le rimanenti forze del Nuovo Blocco Economico. Il problema è superare una terra di nessuno, estremamente radioattiva, che lo divide dal nemico. In mezzo operano armi letali: sono gli screamers, dei robot evolutissimi destinati ad un unico scopo: inseguire e distruggere ogni forma di vita nemica.
