Animali Fantastici e dove trovarli ci porta alla scoperta di una nuova era del magico mondo di J.K. Rowling, ambientata decenni prima di Harry Potter, e dall'altra metà del globo, con protagonista Eddie Redmayne nel ruolo del Magizoologo Newt Scamander. Siamo nel 1926, il magico mondo Newyorkese è minacciato da pericoli sempre crescenti. Qualcosa di misterioso sta seminando la distruzione per le strade, rischiando di far uscire allo scoperto la comunità magica dinanzi ai No-Mag (termine americano per Babbani), tra cui i Secondi Salemiani, una fazione di fondamentalisti intenti al loro sradicamento. E il potente ed oscuro mago Gellert Grindelwald, dopo aver scatenato il caos in Europa, è sparito e ora è introvabile. Ignaro delle crescenti tensioni, Newt Scamander arriva in città quasi alla fine di un viaggio intorno al globo alla ricerca e al salvataggio di creature magiche, alcune delle quali vengono nascoste nella sua valigia in pelle apparentemente anonima, ma dalle dimensioni magiche. Ma il potenziale disastro incombe quando l'ignaro No-Mag Jacob Kowalski lascia inavvertitamente uscire dalla valigia alcune delle bestie di Newt, in una città già in subbuglio.
