Miriam e John sono marito e moglie. Quando lui comincia ad invecchiare ad una velocità spaventosa, si rivolge a Sarah, una dottoressa famosa per i suoi studi sulla vecchiaia, scongiurandola di fare qualcosa per fermare quel processo che sembra inarrestabile. La dottoressa, in un primo tempo lo crede un mitomane ma poi, quando si accorge del suo sbaglio, è troppo tardi. Ormai John, incartapecorito, viene chiuso, morente, in una bara da Miriam, che non può fare niente per lui. Miriam è un vampiro, che trecento anni prima aveva sposato John promettendogli l'eterna giovinezza.
