La bella e spietata miliardaria Joanna Stayton (Goldie Hawn), commissiona un falegname, vedovo e padre di quattro figli, per fare delle riparazioni al suo super yacht, Dean Profitt (Kurt Russell). Alla fine del lavoro però, Joanna si rifiuta di pagarlo non soddisfatta dell'intervento eseguito. La donna durante la notte ha un incidente in mare e perde la memoria. Il marito approfitta della situazione e finge di non riconoscerla, mentre Dean escogita un piano per farsi ripagare, affermando di essere suo marito.
